Charlotte is located on State Hwy.136 approx. 19 miles northwest of Clinton Iowa via Hwy 136, or from U.S. 61 exit 153 east on to Hwy 136 then 11 miles.

The City of Charlotte is a small, rural city in Eastern Iowa.  The population is 421.  It is located in Clinton county, with the city of Clinton as the county seat.

Charlotte was founded in 1853, when Albert Gilmore settled here to build a mill.  He named the town after his wife, Charlotte.  Since then the town has gone through periods of prosperity and hardship, and has come through it all as a typical small town, with friendly people and a relaxed way of life.

For those new to the area, the city's name is pronounced Shar - lot, as opposed to the traditional pronunciation.  Folklore attributes this to the times of the railroad, when the conductor would announce the arrival into town in this way.
